What do you value most in life?

For the past series of blogs, I have talked about trust. Trusting God. But one thing that still bothers me is that many Bible believing Christians today choose power and prestige over what is right in life.

Circumstances in life dictate what God has them to do, instead of allowing God to work in them. I had a meeting with someone recently who gave me advice about what to do after I graduate. Let me give you the senario.

First of all, I believe it is God's Will for be that I go back home and serve in my church (to give myself to the ministry of my church). I will work of course because the Bible commands the man to work because if he doesn't he will not eat (the idea of providing). I will not become a doctor, lawyer, architech, etc. I will have a decent job. A job that God gives me. Just what he knows is best for my needs.

As I talked with this person, this is what he told me, "Julian, all you need to do is trust God!". Is that really it? Granted that I am being proactive by getting a job, but all I need to do is trust God? He told me that so many times a Christian finds a job and concentrates more on making a buck than soulwinning.

I have friends that I know that can easilly be on the down side financially, but do they complain? Do they worry? No, because I know they are trusting God. There are seniors here that are leaving to pastor a church with no job. To bad for them right? Not at all, because God will bless and provide for them. That is God's Promise!

This is why I pose this question? What do you value most in life? Is it power? Is it prestige? Is it recognition? Is it finances? A house, car, a person? How about God?

Many times when decisions are made, God is left out. Prayer is left out. Simple right, but many times Christians (THIS INCLUDES ME!) go and make decisions that fit into their circumstances in life.

"Well it's too hard economically." "You can't make it financially". Exactly. God didn't intent the Christian life to be easy, did He? Maybe that's why we lay up treasures in Heaven than on the earth? Mansions, streets of gold, and crowns laid at Jesus feet! What treasures those are than on earth. Look forward to Heaven, and stop being concerned about the hear and now in life. God is coming soon. Serve Him whole heartedly!

Update!

It is a busy week so far, and it has just started. I just finished a Life of Christ test covering the end of Zaccheus to Wednesday of the Passion Week. I hope I did well (Yes, I studied). I have a Bible Geography presentation due next week, and my Christian Education paper is due this Friday. This is what happens when I procrastinate. Stuff starts to pile on me.

Anyhow, college work party is tomorrow and along with that is white glove that needs to be done by Friday Night (mine has to be done Friday because my duty requires it to be done that Friday night). Obviously this is taking most of my time!

Preaching Conference, as I had posted previous, is just around the corner. On Monday, I am planning to serve at the Sustainers Banquet with Liz (hopefully, because I didn’t ask yet under certain circumstances). I’ll give another update by the end of the week to tell you have everything is going, but thought I should post to let you know how things are going so far.

Preaching Conference

Fairhaven Baptist Church is announcing their annual Preaching Conference. During the days of April 20th-23rd, guest Preachers from all over the nation will come and preach the Word of God. It is always a blessing to see and hear Preachers preach convicting messages. So just to throw it out there, Preaching Conference is just around the corner

A Foundational Lesson Learned 101

We all learn valuable lessons in life. Some lessons are small, and most are great. Currently, I am learning a great foundational lesson in life. Here is a simple example that applies to what I am talking about: A man and a woman come together at marriage. There is a common factor that brings them together to marriage I believe. You may be thinking love, but I think there is something that describes it a little more than love. It is TRUST. The man is trusting in the woman to be there for him through the good times and even through the rough times in life. The same with the woman. She is trusting in the man to resume the position of her father by that he will take care of her fully and be the leader he ought to be to her. Trust is what begins before love.

That might not make any sense, but the point I am trying to make is that sometimes I get away from the basic foundation in life which is trust. I could worry about what kind of job I need to get before I get married, where I am going to live when I move out of my house, or how am I going to pay the bills, but what I need to do first and foremost is trust God! He commands us in Proverbs 3:5, 6 to trust in the Lord. I could fret about everything in life, and try to do things under my own power, but I cannot. The Bible also says in John 15:5 that "without me ye can do nothing." God needs to be the first place I go in any descision I make!

I need to trust God for all my needs in life, and not try to do things in my own power. That does not mean I just sit down and do nothing, but it means that I must not worry about things in life if God is the one that supplies all my needs! It is easy to say we trust God, but do we really?

This applies to all aspects of life: Work, College, Finances, Food, Shelter, etc. So ask yourself "Who or What am I trusting in?"
